Deadly Explosive Attack Near Military Base in Colombia Kills Four, Including Two-Month-Old Baby
A deadly attack involving explosives near a military base in Planadas, southern Colombia, killed at least four civilians, including a two-month-old baby girl, on Sunday night, November 1.
The attack struck an area near the General Domingo Caicedo Infantry Battalion in Tolima province. Explosions caused extensive damage to nearby homes and a local hospital, while at least 17 people were reported injured.
Initial reports describe a dump truck loaded with explosives and improvised rockets made from gas cylinders being used in the assault. Local accounts also reported possible drone involvement, although the full details remain under investigation.
The attack has been condemned by local authorities, who said civilians and medical facilities were put at serious risk. Emergency responders have been treating the wounded, with some patients transferred to nearby facilities.
President Abelardo de la Espriella vowed to intensify military operations against armed criminal groups following the attack. His government has pursued a tougher security strategy since taking office in August.
Authorities have not yet officially identified those responsible for the bombing, as security forces continue operations in the area.
